APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY CHAIRMAN AND A MEMBER OF THE AUSTRALIAN SECURITIES

AND INVESTMENTS COMMISSION

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jeremy Cooper as the Deputy

Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) for

a five-year term, and the re-appointment of Professor Berna Collier as ASIC

member for a four-year term. They both bring strong skills and considerable

experience to their positions.

Mr Cooper has until recently been a partner in the Melbourne office of Blake

Dawson Waldron, Lawyers, having worked with them in the area of company law

for the past 20 years.

During his career, Mr Cooper has been involved in many major corporate transactions,

including takeovers, reconstructions, ASX listings and capital raisings, as

well as providing advice on Corporations Act and securities market issues.

Mr Cooper is keenly interested in developments in corporate law, having been

a member of the Corporations Committee of the Business Law Section of the Law

Council since 1995 and a regular speaker on corporate law issues.

Prior to joining ASIC, Professor Collier was Professor of Commercial Law at

the Queensland University of Technology. Professor Collier has brought her considerable

skills and experience in corporate law to ASIC’s great advantage over
