NO. 102

AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION AND CONSUMER COMMISSION APPOINTMENT

The Treasurer, Mr Peter Costello, today announced the appointment of Ms Yasmin King of Adelaide as an associate member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). Ms King’s appointment is for a three year term.

Ms King is a business consultant and a former Chair of the South Australian Government’s Working Party on Reforming Government Financial Assistance for Small Business. She was also a member of the working party on the South Australian Government’s response to the Hilmer Report.

Associate members of the ACCC are engaged on a part-time basis and supplement the skills and experience available to the ACCC, which also comprises six full-time members.

With her strong small business credentials, Ms King’s appointment completes the first stage of ensuring that the ACCC includes people who understand small business issues. The Government is also committed to appointing a person with a small business background to a full-time position on the ACCC when the next round of appointments is made.
