NO.073

REAPPOINTMENT OF MS MERRAN KELSALL AS PART-TIME CHAIRMAN OF THE AUDITING AND ASSURANCE STANDARDS BOARD

I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Ms Merran Kelsall as the part-time Chairman of the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) for a further term of three years commencing from 10 August 2007.

Ms Kelsall has been the Chairman since 10 August 2004.  She has chaired the AUASB during the successful adoption and implementation of international auditing standards, and the process leading up to auditing standards having the force of law in Australia.  She has been actively involved with the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and has developed strong working relationships both with the FRC and the broader business community.

The AUASB was reconstituted in July 2004 as a Commonwealth body under the Corporate Law Economic Reform Program (Audit Reform and Corporate Disclosure) Act 2004.  The mission of the AUASB is to develop, in the public interest, high-quality auditing and assurance standards and related guidance as a means to enhance the relevance, reliability and timeliness of information provided to users of audit and assurance services.

I take this opportunity to congratulate Ms Kelsall on her reappointment.
