ACCC APPOINTMENTS

A majority of the States and Territories have voted against the appointment of Mr Graeme Samuel as Deputy Chairman of the ACCC.

When the Commonwealth first asked the States and Territories for nominations for Deputy Chair on 31 May 2000 and again on 5 September 2000 six of the States and Territories made no nomination at all.

No State nominated a person of the experience or qualification of Mr Samuel.

When the Commonwealth nominated Mr Samuel on 9 October 2002, no State or Territory nominated an alternative or better qualified person to Mr Samuel.

Mr Samuel will continue as President of the National Competition Council.
