APPOINTMENT OF MS LOUISE SYLVAN AS ACCC DEPUTY CHAIR

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Louise Sylvan as the Deputy

Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for a term

commencing on 6 November 2003 and concluding on 31 July 2008.

Ms Sylvan recently presided over the World Congress of Consumers International

in Lisbon in her capacity as President of Consumers International and

commences her appointment after serving as the Chief Executive Officer

of the Australian Consumers’ Association since 1993.

In her capacity at the ACA, Ms Sylvan has participated in a number of

Government committees and taskforces, including the Commonwealth Consumer

Affairs Advisory Council and the Expert Committee on Electronic Commerce.

Ms Sylvan will bring to the Commission extensive skills in public administration

and consumer protection. I welcome her appointment to the Commission.
