NO.067

PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION REPORT ON THE REVIEW OF THE GAS ACCESS REGIME

The Government is today releasing the report of the Productivity Commission

inquiry into the gas access regime.

The Government welcomes the report, which provides an informative discussion

of key issues in gas access regulation. The report contains a number of recommendations

covering a range of important gas access issues. Those issues include the appropriateness

of an industry specific access regime, the Gas Code’s effect on investment

in pipeline networks and the Gas Code’s consistency with the National

Access Regime.

The Government is releasing the report now in recognition of the public and

industry interest in these issues. The Ministerial Council on Energy will develop

the response to the Commission’s recommendations.

Copies of the report may be downloaded from the Productivity

Commission’s website.
